The following club members have shown interest in starting a UAV project:
Shawn K, Jim, Chris M, Brandon S, Chris P
All other club members, we have spoken with, have shown general curiosity.
This project would require approx. $400-800 from our budget and provide a genuine engineering project for our club in which we can collaborate with the Engineering club. School administrators have given cues that we may be able to claim club of the year if we can both collaborate with another club and provide 'gratis' community services. This will cover the first requirement.
The concept to start will consist of one motor driving three propeller systems, the propeller construction will come from aluminum, hobby-grade helicopter parts in which a servo can control the airflow by adjusting the pitch of the blades.
The $400 price mark includes basic parts to construct solely the craft at it's simplest, where one of the club members can provide the radio transmitter. The $800 price mark will include everything from a DSM2 digital transmitter to an onboard x86 computer system clocked at 1ghz.
Realistically, we can expect to be spending around $600 to get full results.
Jim and Shawn K. plan to collaborate on self-stabilization programs for the craft, and other club members can contribute in any way they wish. There will be construction, programming, testing, and much enjoyment seeing results.
As this will be coming from the club's budget, we wish to retrieve the mass opinion on this project.
